(1933 – 2021) studied psychology in Amsterdam and Jakarta, Philosophy in Leiden, and completed her doctorate cum laude at Indonesia University. Considered to be Indonesia’s foremost feminist poet, she has attended Poetry International in Rotterdam, the International Writers Program at Iowa, School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and Winternachten in the Hague and Jakarta. This is the first English version of her lyrical prose “CalonArang, Kisah Perempuan Korban Patriarki”, first published in 2000.
