OGOH-OGOH Balinese Monsters
Rp150.000
Ogoh-ogoh are communally created, highly artistic effigies of monsters, evil forces, witches, demons from Hindu mythology, and most recently anti-heroes from Western television, that are paraded through the village streets on Balinese New Year’s Eve in preparation for Nyepi, New Year’s Day. The ogoh-ogoh effigies are finally burned in a ritualistic effort to rid the community of the previous year’s evils. As an artist Tamarra Kaida became intrigued by the Balinese perspective of reality, and after she moved to Bali to live, she began photographing ogoh-ogoh seriously. This book is her offering to those who are interested in Balinese culture and the fascinating ogoh-ogoh monsters.
Tamarra Kaida is a photographer and writer who has taught photography at Arizona State University in the United States from 1979 to 2004 and travelled extensively giving lectures and photographty workshops in England, Europe and Russia as a guest lecturer and a visiting artist.
